Santorini is a small circular archipelago of volcanic islands located in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km south-east from Greece's mainland.
Santorini is essentially what remains of an enormous volcanic explosion, destroying the earliest settlements on what was formerly a single island, and leading to the creation of the current geological caldera. Its spectacular physical beauty, along with a dynamic nightlife, have made the island one of Europe's tourist hot spots. We stayed on Santorini for 2 nights and explored the towns of Thira and Oia before taking our next ferry to the Island of Naxos. |

| Hotel: Our hotel was located about a 20 minute walk from the town center of Thira. | |||
|
It was still to early for the pool Views from our hotel. The small plants growing in the foreground are actually grapes for making wine. Because of the winds, rocks are placed in small circles on the ground and the small grape plants grow inside the rock ring protected from the wind. |

| Dogs & Cats: There are dogs and cats all over the island. As you walk down the narrow streets past the shops, you will find dogs and cats napping among the tourist crowds. | |||
|
We ran into this dog several times while walking
around the town. He seemed to take a liking to Ken and would not leave
Ken alone.
This was a display inside one of the shops in town. Notice the cat sleeping in the bottom center area. |
