This is the Ibiza of Greece. A beautiful island in the Cyclades, which looks just like the postcards: white little houses with flowers and blue windows and doors, hand painted streets, windmills, pigeon keepers, chimneys, lots of little churches and wonderful restaurants and cafes. Many of the Greek "jetsetters" either have a house here or visit every summer, and the nightlife is very developed. You will see a lot of eccentrics especially at night time. Even though it is a party-island, it is not as loud as for example Ios and Kos, so you can get sleep at night. Mykonos has a reputation for being a summer resort for mainly gay men, which is not entirely true. The gay audience is present, but it is also a glamorous place for the rich and famous, which is painfully clear to whoever has a look at the prices on the menus. History Mykonos according to mythology, this was where Heracles killed the giants. The rocks around the island are supposedly their corpses!!! |

| Paradise Beach: The beach is located about 20 minutes by bus from the main town center. | ||||

| Platys Gialos: We took a 20 minute bus ride to Platys Gialos on the other side of the island. The water was still too cold for swimming and the day was very windy so we had lunch and walked around for a bit before returning to the main town and taking another bus to Paradise Beach. | ||||

Mykonos Pelican: The Pelican (called Petros=Peter) is an integral part of the island of Mykonos and rightfully it has become the mascot of the island. You can get a glimpse of the cute creature as it strolls leisurely in own unhurried pace through the city’s many alleyways. Although it is particularly fond of the harbor area along with
Alevkantra. Everyone in Mykonos including visitors from abroad adores and admires the pelican. Petros the Pelican has been officially declared as the mascot of Mykonos. He has made Mykonos his home since 1954. The original Petros passed away after spending a long thirty years in this enchanting island. Her loss was deeply mourned by the people of Mykonos that without wasting much time they introduced a substitute and the tradition was honored.

| Pelican 1: Our last night we ran into the pelican as it was walking through the streets and even entered one of the stores to do some shopping. | ||||

| Pelican 2: We ran into the pelican again the next morning before catching our boat to Delos. There was a cat napping by the door as the pelican slowing walked up the steps. The cat woke up right as the pelican got within eating distance and ran off. We were not really sure if a pelican could eat a cat or not, but the cat was not sticking around to find out. | ||||
